BATTERIES, TIRES, AND BLADES OH MY.... there are so many things to consider in ensuring that you and your family stay safe and warm this winter season.

As we approach the thick of winter- it's easy to simply cross our fingers and hope that our car makes it out alive. However, this winter you can take the road less travelled and be fully prepared by Winterizing your car and preparing for the snow.

Buckle up and take notes on these foolproof measures to protect your car and your family:

1. Maintain your tire pressure

Typically the first sign of winter is that dreaded tire pressure light that illuminates your dash. A correctly inflated tire allows it to have the best contact with the surface of the road which is crucial for safe traction. Most cars have gauges on the inside of the drivers side door that outlines what the correct PSI should be for your tires in different seasons. You can take your car to an air pump at a major gas station and match the PSI of your tire to the correct PSI stated on the inside of the driver door.

2. Keep Washer Fluid Full

Getting rid of dirt and grime from your windshield is a must in all seasons- but in the winter there are a few noteworthy precautions to take. Winter Washer fluid is specifically designed to withstand freezing temperatures. Washer fluid is relatively inexpensive to swap out between seasons and will without a doubt be worth it! Next time you are at a Charlottesville Car Service center getting that Car Wash or Detail ask about replacing your wiper fluid!

3. Pack an Emergency Kit

In the instance you do get stranded out on those frigid winter roads here are some items that you will want in your trunk- Matches, Flashlight with batteries, Flares, Warm Clothes, a First Aid Kit, Ice Scraper, nonperishable food, bottled water, antifreeze and some jumper cables.

4. Check on Battery / Heating System / Spark Plugs / Wires

Better safe than sorry! Virginia Winters can be brutal and unforgiving when it comes to taking a risk and not getting your car serviced. Not sure whether or not your Battery, Spark Plugs, Heating System or the like are in tip top shape? Bring it to the dealership or a Charlottesville Auto Service Center to have them take a look for possible maintenance concerns. These are tests that a mechanic can check for you to ensure that your car doesn't bottom out in a less than convenient time!

5. Check Tire Tread

Get an oil change and tires rotated at a Car Repair Shop at the same time. It's a win / win situation for you and your car.
